Trip in Japan, october 2007.

Hello, Ciao,
dall'Italia all'Europa all'Oriente.

English version:
welcome to this blog, dealing with customs, traditions and foods, from East to West contries
this was our last night in Tokyo, and we went to a typical japanese restaurant specialised in grilled meat and fish, Steki Housu, in Asakusa, a place where local people stil live in the old style.
The cook stayed all the time in front of us, cooking on the heated tray: Teppanyaki style.
In the photo, he is preparing the "awabi" (abalone) one of the most delicious food there. The full course included also sashimi as appetizer, yakisoba (soba noodle with vegetable grated on the hot tray), and dessert....
The Abalone shells are rahter convenient today, due the Euro/yen exchange deal, 1 Awabi is sold for 5000 yen at supermarkets, and is a delicious food to make Sushi and other typical foods.
In the old tymes it was fished by Ama diver women, without other support than their lungs.
The Ama divers wee famous for direct approach (Tatemae in japanese is a facade, something done or said in formal style just in face, means Texturing, as in the word Tatami). A japanese movie, "Aho" describes a love story between a fisherman and an Ama diver, where Aho stays for an old word meaning "bad", prohibited.... even if Ama can be seen as easy going, she is a heartly and lovingly character.

And, differently form European countries, the fruits of the sea belong to the sea workers, and canot be fished by everyone!

Next time I will tell more about this trip, cheers
